As a full-time sculptor Martin’s goal is to use his skills to express and communicate ideas and emotions in stone. Working in the Cotswolds, he uses mainly limestones and slates to sculpt a wide variety of unique pieces.
Ambition driven by self-learning and working with other craftsmen has enabled Martin to build a skill-set that enable him to create and express his ideas in stone.
Much of his early work reflects a figurative ‘rite of passage’ where he demonstrates the brain, hand and eye coordination necessary to sculpt complex physical forms like hands and faces.
With this foundation his work has now become more personalised and abstract - fuelled by a desire to create tangible forms in stone that trigger aesthetic consideration, or just a smile - nothing beats the simple delight, texture or temperature of stone...
